Featured Product: Icom-M506 Marine Radio with AIS Receiver
Launched this January at the London International Boat Show 2014, the Icom IC-M506 VHF marine transceiver boasts NMEA 2000 connectivity and an intergrated AIS receiver. Particularly impressive is the intuitive Icom common user interface, which makes operation across multiple functions quick and easy.
A high definition dot matrix display allows all information such as GPS, AIS, DSC and radio menus to be clearly viewed by the user.
A major benefit is that you’re able to bring up vessel traffic information on the unit’s display, while the AIS target call function allows you to set up an individual DSC call – a massive advantage in a an emergency situation.
What else is new?
A stand-out new feature of this Icom model, which is available to buy this April, is the plug-and-play functionality of NMEA 2000. It’s reportedly quick to set up, and straightforward to use.
A ‘last call’ voice recording function which automatically saves the last two minutes of incoming calls means you can replay the received calls which is very important in clarifying important transmissions that may have been missed.
The IC-M506 also features Icom’s ‘Active Noise Cancelling’ technology. Thanks to the latest digital signal processing (DSP), the built-in bidirectional active noise cancelling improves audio quality both ways. You should therefore be heard, and you’ll be able to hear when you really need to, such as when weather conditions are poor or if engines are running.
The IC-M506EURO also features the most Advanced Waterproofing for a VHF in the market; IPX8. Designed and tested to survive after being submersed in 1m of water for 60 minutes.
