1974 Magnum Maltese
-Magnums were the forerunner of the Cigarette style of boats, they were built by Don Arnow...The King Of Thunder Boat Row which was located on 188th Street in North Miami Beach. Don Arnow also built Formula, Donzi, Cigarette & Squadron
Magnums were the king of racing from the 60's thru the 80's and its hull design is still use today
-Magnums racing boats ranged in size from 16 to 34 ft. and have a current dry weight of 5,200 lbs.
-Son of the current owner of Magnum and a past owner of Cigarette boats have started a new company GTM and will build a new 27 ft. along with a 38 and 39 ft.
-The new 2011 27ft Magnum is expected to sell for $250-$275,000
-Magnum is still in business and builds large yachts 45 ft.@ $2,500.000 plus
Current Magnum Restore
-This 1974 28ft.Maltese has been restored to its racing heritage, and is period correct
- This Maltese is # 48 of 100 built from 1973-1979 and was re-rigged for racing in 1983
-New paint with traditional paint striping
electrical, mechanicals, dash, racing bolsters with candy striped 70's upholstery
-All original or re-chromed hardware
-Original name Magnum Force, last name Thriller
-Originally sold to Burbank Marine in California, came east to Delaware 2007 and Illinois in 2008
-Original color Tangerine, sides White top and bottom
-Original engines twin Mercury 280's
-All Stewart Warner mechanical gauges are original
-Current gas capacity two tanks at 55 gallons each, which are under cockpit floor
-Also had two forward gas tanks which have been removed
-Flat cabin floor for weight reduction vs. step down, normally found in the Maltese
-Merc 350's with 4 bolt mains, forged rods, solid lifters, aggressive cam 11-1 compression ratio, burns premium
-Total rebuild on Starboard engine only used rollers, cam, crank, oil pan, 6 rods and pistons. Everything else is new, block bored to 30 over, along with customized Dart heads
-Port engine top end reworked with improved existing Bow Tie heads
-Current total hp estimated at 800 to 900
-IST time in the water on 11/10/2010, it ran flawless, 70 mph with throttle left, needs to be dialed in to see what she can really do...Flat water would do fine
