Compete in the ANZ Sail Fiji 2014 Race from Auckland to Fiji from the Comfort of your own Home
Online sail-racing navigation simulation Sailonline.org have teamed up with the Royal Akarana Yacht Club to allow navigation enthusiasts around the world the chance to compete in a virtual version of the ANZ Sail Fiji Race, starting next Saturday (7th June) at 6pm (GMT).
Sailonline was created by Sailport AB in Stockholm, Sweden by Jakob Kuttenkeuler and Kalle Haglunds. Back in 2007, the pair of decided to combine their passion with sailing, science and computers. As a non-profit organisation, run entirely by volunteers, each Sailonline race is free to enter. Using real time weather data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and advance boat physics simulation, Sailonline is the most realistic sailing navigation simulator game on the online.
20 boats will compete in the ‘real-life’ 1,100 nautical mile ANZ Sail Fiji 2014 race, all of which you can track through Sailonline and see how your navigation measures up. Sailonline hopes to give sailing fans of all ages and abilities the chance to improve their skills through a realistic, entertaining and educational game.
Registration for the virtual ANZ Sail Fiji Race opens later today (30th May) giving you a week to get to grips with the world of online sail-racing navigation.
