Kiel Week: Day 2: Roundup
NewsMonday 23 June 2014
Today is day 3 of Kiel Week, the largest sailing event in the world, held annually in Kiel, Germany.
Wind can be a sailor's best friend or worst enemy, and yesterday lows of pressure above Scandinavia and highs above the British islands resulted in a gusty affair.
With winds reaching over 30 knots, races in both Olympic and Paralympic classes were cancelled throughout the day. The only class able to hit the water and compete were the Lasers. The conditions, although precarious, resulted in a 40 mile race from Eckernfoerde to Kiel at phenomenal speeds.
Watch the video below for a roundup of yesterday’s action.
