Montenegro’s Ever-Growing Popularity as a Superyacht Destination
Positioned in south-east Europe, Montenegro is not perfectly situated as a popular superyacht destination. However, it is quickly becoming a hive of yacht charter activity.
With limited flight connections from the UK and France, Montenegro is remote, but simultaneously exclusive. It is therefore attracting superyachts cruising the Adriatic Sea and past Dalmatia.
Where superyacht charters may have neglected the idea of visiting Montenegro as part of a trip to Croatia or Venice in the past, more and more people are considering the country as a worthwhile attraction and cruising destination. With 72 km (45 miles) of beaches and a population of approximately 670,000, Montenegro boasts has an abundance of cultural and religious monuments, a stunning rainforest and one of the deepest canyons in the world.
The main attraction for superyacht charters however is Porto Montenegro, with its wide range of berths for yachts from 12m to 150m and a vibrant marina village and resort. A new destination, Portonovi, is planned to open in 2016 in Montenegro. This new 250 berth (up to 75m) marina will host a VIP yacht club and helipad, and a dedicated pier for visiting superyachts and top end cruise ships.
