What will you try during National Watersports Month?
It’s here! National Watersports Month is taking place throughout May 2014 at a variety of sailing clubs, watersports centres and marinas across the UK. The opportunities are endless...you can try canoeing on the Mersey, rowing in Cardiff, sailing in Suffolk, or powerboating in Southampton - just about every corner of the UK has events offering taster sessions like these!
National Watersports Month is a joint collaboration between the British Marine Federation (BMF), Royal Yachting Association (RYA), British Canoe Union (BCU), British Rowing, and British Waterski and Wakeboard (BWSW). The overall aim is to encourage the nation to get on the water to try new activities.
Great events planned for May 2014
Following on from the great success within the water based sports in the Olympics, people have become more interested in trying a new sport either on or in the water. So National Watersports Month has been designed for people to actually get out there and have a go.
The nationwide events programme includes open days, taster events and have-a-go sessions across all range of activities from kayaking and rowing through to inland. The programme of events will work to highlight the breadth of available sports and activities for those looking to take up a new pastime or re-establish a hobby.
Organisations such as Active Nation, Liquid Logistics and UKSA are hosting special events, and centres all over UK are involved. There will be paddle-powered activities, barging, dinghy sailing, yachting and motor powered activities. A number of water ski and wakeboard centres up and down the country will be opening their doors during May, to give people a chance to learn and try new activities.
“These events will help to make National Watersports Month bigger and better, meaning there will be more coverage about the activities which will ultimately encourage more people to get on the water through boating and watersports,” says a BMF spokeswoman.
