World's sailing elite poised for Extreme Sailing Series 2014
The Extreme Sailing Series™ kicks off for 2014 on 20 February in Singapore, and is promising to be the most ambitious tour to date, where the world’s finest sailors will put their skills to the ultimate test.
Eight iconic Host Venues are lined up for the award-winning Extreme Sailing Series 2014, spanning three continents, over eleven months - including two brand new venues Saint Petersburg, Russia and Sydney, Australia.
For the first time, Singapore will host the opening round of the Series, where new faces and new teams will meet the more seasoned crews for the first time. The action will take place at the heart of Singapore’s financial hub with racing at the Promontory@Marina Bay, one of the most iconic and internationally recognised stadium racecourses of the Series.
Global asset management company Aberdeen Asset Management will continue to support the Host Venue of Singapore as the local Event Main Partner as well as continuing their support of the local team, Team Aberdeen Singapore.
Who is competing in 2014?
Nine elite level teams representing seven nations will compete to win the coveted Extreme Sailing Series trophy, including Olympic legend Sir Ben Ainslie, Volvo Ocean Race winner Franck Cammas, reigning champion and British Olympian Leigh McMillan and double Olympic gold medallist Roman Hagara - to name a few. The full list of competing teams is available here: http://extremesailingseries.com.
Ainslie will field his own team, J.P. Morgan BAR, and is reported saying of the Series: “Anyone who has seen the Series, or taken part in it, will tell you that the style of the courses, the speed of the boats and the number of boats …means there is a lot of action and a lot of potential for crashes and incidents.”
