Van de Stadt Pioneer 9, Bermudan sloop rigged yacht designed by the legendary fast boat designer Van-de-stadt and built in GRP layup.
Caravel is a good example of this very fast boat. The Pionier 9 was designed for the Fastnet race and in fact won its class for several years. They were described by the press at the time as "wind driven torpedoes".
Built in the early days of GRP, she has a reassuringly thick hull to push through waves whilst allowing for flex. Although low to the water, she is surprisingly dry and comfortable with the spray hood up.
Caravel has had her mast, boom, standing and running rigging, and her windows replaced within the last 10 years, and the engine although old, has been maintained every year with a rolling program of maintenance.
This represents great value for a very fast "go anywhere" cruiser.
