In 1979, X-Yachts, one of todays most successful & quality orientated production yards was established in Denmark. During the 1980’s X-Yachts designed & built winning IOR yachts for World Class Racing. Their success in this market attracted the attention of the cruising market which was then looking for fast, high quality & comfortable sailing yachts. It seemed very clear to them that they should use their boat building experience from fast racers and combine this with building high performance cruising yachts. To this day, the boats are still built with these renowned & highly acclaimed sailing characteristics.
This X-Yachts X-412 is a fantastic boat that just ticks so many boxes. She is renowned for her excellent & fast sailing characteristics, but is equally a very comfortable & spacious family cruiser. With 3 good size cabins below, including a superb forward Master with its own large en-suite, plus extra berths in the saloon, extensive seating / dining space, large well equipped galley & second heads, there is room for all the Crew in comfort. She also has a forward facing nav station and a good suite of electronics including 12” plotter, radar, GPS, autopilot, AIS, wind & multi display gauges. Powered by a Yanmar 3 JH2CE 3 cylinder diesel engine with sail drive linked to a 430mm folding prop she can be easily handled in close quarters & with very attractive lines & stunning teak decks, this X-412 is a boat that will really turn heads. This particular yacht has been set up for short handed family sailing by using electric Harken winches, enabling push button mainsail trimming from the wheel & effortless hoisting of the sails. Infact her current Owner has frequently sailed her single handed. She had a new main and furling Genoa in 2010 from North Sails that have only had light use and also has an Asymmetric cruising chute flown from the demountable bow sprit & storm jib. Considering her age, she can be described as being in very good condition, which confirms the fact that she has not been raced hard ( like so many other X-Yachts ), although she could probably be further race optimised should her new owner want to. Whether you are a family wanting a spacious cruiser that can hold its own at the head of the cruising fleet or whether you are looking for a very solid, highly respected & very capable yacht for short handed sailing, this X-412 should definitely be on your list. In a boat test conducted by Yachting Monthly in the UK, the X-Yachts X-412 scored an incredible 91/100 with 10/10 for performance under sail, at the helm, deck layout, design & construction, maintenance & living below. A truly great all rounder. She is currently lying Southampton.
