This is a superbly maintained vessel that has spent more than half of its service life in fresh water but has also completed long ocean passages. Bright work shows care given throughout. The bottom was soda blasted 3 years ago and 2nd coat of West Epoxy applied (no evidence of blistering when old bottom paint removed). Rigging is oversized for heavy weather, and sail inventory includes a new Yankee. Stay sail, main set of downward twin sails, 2 spinnakers, (but still serviceable) set of storm sails showing little use. mast is African mahogany with aluminum self-storing steps to masthead. Sail covers for all mounted sails. Features and Benefits
AVALON IV was purchased as a retirement vessel and home in 1996. Her size and weight yet ease of handling by two persons made her an ideal candidate for the cruising life we planned.

A voyage from central Canadaa to Newfoundland in 1997 confirmed her sea kindly nature and ease of handling, as well as the roominess that made live aboard a viable option.

Post retirement, a planned voyage to the Caribbean and beyond was started and we came to appreciate the stability and roominess even more. The cosmetic work done since purchase, including the green canvas full enclosure, green boot stripe and waterline, and the varnish bright work never failed to turn heads and attract positive comments.

The addition of the propane Force 10 stove made life grand at the galley, and the addition of the 100 amp engine driven alternator, and the diesel powered 150 amp power genie all powering batteries through a three stage regulator, made life at anchor a breeze.

We would be aboard her still and enjoying the cruising life but for the intervention of health concerns for us both, which has cut short the dream of blue water cruising. Our medical uncertainty has become a real plus for the purchaser of our vessel since she is truly ready to continue our planned cruise.

Her teak decks give a feeling of sure footedness under way, the addition of the four bladed VARIPROP has increased cruise speed under power by at least a knot, and under sail by a half knot or more.

Her spacious interior has permitted us to enjoy the company of friends and family on extended cruises, while never compromising our feeling of all the space and privacy needed or wanted.

But for the medical concerns and our age, we would not for a moment consider selling our nautical pride and joy. We only hope that a new owner will be found to appreciate her virtues as we have.
