    Boat Name: TG
    Location: Pin Mill, Suffolk, UK
    Year: 1914
    Category: Power
Class: Motor Barge/ Construction: riveted iron/steel

Dutch Barge constructed of riveted iron with a high steel content. In her present ownership she has undergone a comprehensive rebuild 2008-10. She has been run successfully as a self catering holiday charter business: 2 years on the Broads and now four seasons on her permanent private pontoon mooring in Pin Mill on the River Orwell, Suffolk. She provides a very comfortable base for her guests. As part of the holiday package a trip on the river can be taken to include an overnight stop at the Wolverstone Marina. She runs on the skipper’ owns commercial ticket (up to 200tons) on local rivers rather than being MCA coded. She has berthing for 4 in two cabins (1 double and 2 singles), beautifully furnished throughout all linen supplied. Bookings have been extremely healthy with a 70% occupancy over the whole year. There is no automatic right to the staging, any new owner would have to make their own application, any sale would be dependent on a successful application.

The hull has been spray foam insulated, the interior was custom built in solid iroko, A named company lighting, fixtures and fittings. A professionally fitted electrical and heating systems. The centrepiece of the galley is an Aga this is oil fired and produces endless hot water, there is a double oven to cook in and the range to cook on. It heats the whole vessel, there is also double glazing throughout. She is to be SOLD as a going concern with her website and future business…… All but the owners personal effects are to be removed at the point of sale.

Mechanically she has a Perkins 4236, 65hp diesel engine, this is maintained and regularly run up. Any passages have to be made in daylight hours usually by the owner/skipper himself. In the conversion of her although she has a full rig, mast, sails, bowsprit and leeboards, due to the new raised and lengthened coach roof level means that her gear/mast cannot be lowered to the deck. Besides this she is truely unique in her bespoke fit out, making a viewing and the considerations of continuing her business are real positives and perhaps latterly she may become your own home Afloat……. Air draft 17m with her mast stepped otherwise the hull is approx 2.5m air draft.

Twee Gebroeders (Two Brothers) was built in Friesland in 1914 and originally called De Jonge Sjoerd. Built of rivetted iron with high steel content she remained in commercial service, engineless, until 1978. We have photos and registration documents including a photo of her working in 1946.

She came out of commercial service and into charter use, now with an engine until the mid 80’s when she was relocated to the Thames, then Bristol where we bought her in 2007. Between 2008 and 2010 she had a keel up, bare hull rebuild, including re-plating the hull in 6mm steel, epoxy paint system and a lavish interior.

Always intended to run as self catering accommodation, she had 2 seasons static on the south Broads, and is now completing her second season on the River Orwell on her private pontoon berth. She has bookings of better then 90% occupancy in all trading years and in all seasons, and rave reviews in line and in print, including top 10 riverside accommodation award in the Daily Mail, reviews in Grazia et al.

Her turnover is better than £30k gross, with costs of £1500 pa mooring, £800 insurance and booking fees to agents (Alister Sawday / Canopy and Stars being the main agent)

The interior was all brand new in 2009/10, and custom-built in solid iroko throughout. She is spray foam insulated and has 9mm food grade tankage, professionally installed heating and electrical systems, granite worktops, high end fittings including Italian lighting, Perrin & Rowe taps, hand painted Delft style tiling, Vanessa Arbuthnot upholstery and curtains, memory foam beds (1 double, 2 single) double glazing, 3 flat panel TV/DVD and surround sound

Her galley fit-out centres around the cast iron (1 tonne!) range that supplies central heating, cooking and limitless hot water on a 250ltr dedicated kerosene tank. It is on demand, and only uses about 10 ltrs of oil a week.

Apart from personal effects (dvd/cd collection, paintings and books), everything is included in the inventory and we expect to sell her as a going concern, including website at www.tg1897.com and bookings.

She has a full rig and sails, but the mast is suspect and we think should be replaced if seriously carrying sail. We move her regularly under power and she handles very easily with excellent authority from the rudder and decent thrust. I have never thought I needed a bow thruster.

Lessons and instruction can be given, and she needs no special licence being under 23mtrs.

Her half tide mooring is secure, includes local parking, a 16amp mains supply and water. Black tanks are emptied at the Royal Harwich YC, or can be pumped out at sea. There is a stipulation that the mooring is NOT live-aboard, but is used for either the commercial business or as a non residential berth.

Photos and some history are at www.tg1897.com

This is further enhanced by nautical and natural themed designer fabrics, feather pillows, crisp linens and fluffy towels.

At the heart of the barge is a stunning red (oil fired) range which provides cooking and heating and makes a lovely focal point to the main living area. Many people tell us it is their favourite thing on board!
