The Passoa 47 was designed by Phillipe Harle, and has been built exclusively by Garcia since the mid 1980s. She has a centerboard amidships and daggerboard aft, ahead of the rudder, and so can be adjusted for exceptional balance on all points of sail. Normally cutter-rigged, she is available with self-tending jib if desired, or may be sloop-rigged. The layout can accommodate 2 double cabins comfortably, a. Like most boats we build, the Passoa 47 is classified as Class 1 by the French Marine inspectorate. This defines a boat as being suitable for sailing worldwide, and requires strong structure and seafaring features, such as having a main hatch located above the low point on the cockpit coaming, proper separation of tanks, and many other details. The complete structure is heavily reinforced, and includes integral fuel & water tanks, ballast and all non-mechanical deck fittings that can reasonably be fabricated in aluminum. The bottom is 10 mm plate (3-8"), heavily reinforced, with progressively lighter plate higher up in the hull. The standard rig is quite conservative. Sail area can readily be increased by specifying a higher mast, provided that in-mast furling is not required
